He is one of the best-loved of Baku’s jazz musicians. This is not just a question of his mastery – Tofiq simply loves jazz for its own sake. His career has taken him through all the groups which have represented Azerbaijani jazz, except for those of Vagif. There really is no limit to his love of jazz; it goes beyond description. It is enough to say that, although his hair has greyed over the years, his soul remains young. He is always ready to get on stage and sit behind his battery of percussion, at which point all else ceases to exist for Tofiq, except for the embellishment of the music with his own particular palette.
