Rafig Babayev - We can talk endlessly about him and still not say enough. You can just sit silently - but even silence will speak for itself. Always, whenever Rafig's name is mentioned, Rafig Babayev's smile comes to mind - only his. And his music comes to mind, too - only his... Recognised from the very first notes.
For all Azerbaijani jazz musicians the name symbolises high culture and responsibility; the symbol of a school. A shame, a great shame that he left us so early. Perhaps we’ll never understand what we have lost – everyone will speak of his own memories, but to assemble all the pieces of the picture, we need a master no less great than Rafig.
And we say, “Thank you” to Rafig's daughter Fariza for giving us all the opportunity to try and understand the maestro.
